Crime Stoppers Introduces Registered Offender of the Week Program

Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County today announced a new program that will pay a $100 reward to confidential informants who provide tips that lead to the arrest of registered offenders who have not maintained their registrations, according to Crime Stoppers Vice Chairman Gordon Bassham.

“This new program, aimed at helping the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office’s Offender Registration Unit locate sex, violent and drug offenders, is designed to put these felons back behind bars,” said Bassham. “It is
clearly an issue of public safety if these registered offenders are not complying with the terms of their probation or parole.”

According to Sheriff Bob Hinshaw, his agency currently has arrest warrants for 63 registered offenders who are non‐compliant. Of that total, 32 are registered sex offenders, 11 are violent offenders and 20 are drug offenders.

“These offenders must be located and put back behind bars,” said Hinshaw. “I believe this new Crime Stoppers program will go a long way toward helping us locate these felons.”

Anyone with information about a registered offender or any felony crime can call Crime Stoppers at 316‐267‐2111. Tips can also be submitted online at, or from a mobile phone by texting TIP217 then your message to CRIMES (274637). All ways are secure and anonymous. If a tip on a registered offender who is wanted by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department is submitted within seven days of the release of that person’s name to the public, the tipster will receive a cash reward of $100 and Crime Stoppers will never ask the tipster’s name. Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County is a non‐profit organization of citizens against crime.
