After years of legal wrangling, the Kansas Supreme Court is scheduled to issue its opinion Friday on the appeals of convicted Wichita murderers Jonathan and Reginald Carr.

The decision comes 12 years after the Carr brothers were convicted in one of the most notorious crimes in Wichita history.

Jonathan Carr, 34, and Reginald Carr, 36, raised dozens of issues in their appeals.

Antwon D. Banks Sr. was bound over for trial Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder in the slaying of a radio station employee in February.

At the conclusion of Wednesday’s preliminary hearing, Judge Gregory Waller set a trial date of Aug. 25. Judge Joe Kisner will be the trial judge, said Dan Dillon, spokesman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Banks, 31, is charged with killing 25-year-old Daniel Flores, an employee at Steckline Communications, which houses radio stations and the Mid America Ag Network.

The caretakers of a 3-year-old Wichita girl who was beaten to death last month waived their rights to a preliminary hearing Tuesday and have been bound over for trial on first-degree felony murder charges.

Monica Krueger and Evan A. Schuessler are set for a jury trial Aug. 25 in the death of Krueger’s daughter Emma, according to Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office’s spokesman Dan Dillon. The girl died June 4 after being taken to a local hospital by ambulance two days earlier. Emma was unresponsive, had bruises covering her body and had swelling on her brain.

Both Krueger, 24, and Schuessler, Krueger’s 23-year-old boyfriend, were arrested June 3 in connection with the girl’s injuries. They were charged with murder after she died.
