Wichita has a new domestic violence prevention and education website to help victims and create awareness in the community. is the website introduced Monday by the Wichita Crime Commission.

“There are many resources in our area and statewide to help victims of domestic violence,” Gordon Bassham, executive director of the commission, said in a statement. “When a victim needs help immediately, there is little time to search the Web to track down where to go or who to call.”

A Newton man charged with recklessly killing his girlfriend’s 18-month-old daughter, who was found dead after being left alone to nap in a car seat, has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will face a jury trial on Aug. 25.

Jason M. Bugner, 21, is charged with a count of involuntary manslaughter in the Aug. 30, 2012, death of Farrah Pendland. According to an amended autopsy report dated September 2013, the girl died by strangulation after she was fastened into a car seat by only its top buckles and placed on the edge of a futon mattress while Bugner visited with a friend in another room.

When he checked on her later, Bugner “found the car seat partially overturned” and the toddler “suspended with the car seat strap around her neck,” according to the amended autopsy report.
